The Dark Knights
Harvey Dent’s two week slaughter of the Maroni crime family is one of the most bizarre cases in Gotham history. The first murders were covered up by his friends in the DA office, and he had a strange habit of letting some of his victims live, only to hunt them down days later. This occurred five times with Saul Maroni before his public execution in Circle Park in broad daylight, an event especially notable as it lead to a confrontation with the Batman of Gotham witnessed by a crowd of hundreds. The following trial was landmark with defense attorney Rachel Dawes securing a life sentence for Harvey in Arkham Asylum for the Criminally Insane as opposed to a death sentence in Blackgate Federal Penitentiary. Dent vs. The People is often cited as the reason most criminals exhibiting strange enough behavior escape the chair to this day. During his first months at Arkham he began talking to himself in voices and broke out during a hypnosis session with Dr. Hugo Strange where he demanded to be addressed as 2face. He beat him within an inch of his life but let him live. Since that escape his crimes have been more random in nature, and often revolve around themes of duplication or binary choices or simply the numeral two itself. He has escaped from Arkham a total of 4 times, more than any other patient. He was most recently aprehended by Batgirl during the New Year’s Riot of ‘94 where he attacked Gotham Central (GCPD Headquarters) with a fire truck full of corrosive acid. He is currently locked up in Arkham’s high security tower.
